We had an awesome time during the family BBQ on Saturday at Lennox Gardens. Autumn put on a beautiful day; as only Canberra can; sunny and 21 degrees.
Upon arriving, we scanned the terrain to find the best location and identified a gazebo near a couple of public barbeques close to the lake. Alias, our timing was off by a couple of seconds as the gazebo was taken by another group. You need to be quick in Canberra on a beautiful autumn day. Damian quickly identified a leafy area with sufficient tables and chairs and barbeques to house the 34 odd adults and children.
James turned up with his girlfriend riding their “funky” bikes, which drew everybody’s attention. Shaune gave it a go and got up on the bicycle – it was a struggle. With a little assistance from James, Shaune was able to get up and stay up.
Damian was our Master Chef for the day. Armed with his KING sized barbeque equipment, he set about to thrill the team with his cooking expertise; producing some of the best cooking of the day J. The public barbeques were slow to start and offered up very little heat. Enter Anna the saviour!! She provided us with an extra barbeque (special thanks to her scout group). Together, Anna and Damian cooked up a great meal of marinated lamb cutlets, satay chicken and vegetarian skewers. Chipolatas for the kids went down well; although I believe some adults had their share. Add the excellent salads and copious amounts of tomato sauce and the day was kicking off well.
Simon, always looking for some fun and competition, decided to start a game of “Monkey in the middle” with the soccer ball. We played like professional footballers, placing the ball with precision. Although the ball headed for the lake a number of times, it was only successful on one occasion.
After exhaustion set in, we settled down to some nice wine and beer and enjoyed great conversation about anything and everything and of course enjoyed the fantastic Canberra weather.
It was a great day; everyone was there with their families – well done!
As always, special thanks to Richard for capturing the moment with his mighty camera.
