The wet, cold morning didn’t put off race-goers from this year’s City2Surf, with the number of participants hitting a record of 85,000 people. Luckily the rain ceased just before the gun went, leaving overcast conditions – ideal for running, even though it was a little slippery.
At the finish line Altisians were treated with a picnic of gourmet sandwiches and refreshing drinks. Thanks goes to John for setting up the picnic with marquee, picnic rugs as well as blankets to combat the chill-factor. Daniel G and James C were particularly grateful for the blankets – both wrapped up like Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. And the location for the picnic was also a step up from the normal spot, almost positioned on the beach, so if you could actually find it you were rewarded!
Thanks also goes to Emilio for lugging the sandwiches and drinks down from the nearest IGA. Even though he lost a couple of bottles of water in transit the majority of drinks made it which was more than enough to share around. The gourmet sandwiches were also a hit.
Congratulations to Alok (+ girlfriend Sindu), James C and Daniel G on finishing the race.
