After a hard day of work, the team approaches the Melbourne game viewing platform with excitement and jubilation.
This is the first time the team will see real African wildlife and taste the food of Africa.
Upon entering the platform we are met with ICE COLD Windhoek’s (Beer) to quench the thirst…”YEBO YES” shouts one the team!
In the background, the tunes of Johnny Clegg, Mandoza, TKZee blast through as the team settle in.
The mood changes immediately as the biltong and drywors is passed around. As the succulent rump hits the taste buds, the team devour the whole lot like a pack of wild dogs.
Jislaaik!!! Its amazing what can happen when you bring people to the bush!!!
The braaimaster lights the “braai” (BBQ) and whacks the boerewors (sausage) on the grid (grill). The team watches with anticipation and sound of many licking lips shudders across the plains as if a pride of lions had the prey in site. Boerewors rolls, baboetie, pap and mielies are served to the delight of many.
After ripping apart the main meal and with some of us eating into more than their fair share, the team finishes off the meal with melktert and koeksisters.
As we sat round the gas BBQ…mmm…urrr…campfire, many of the team were able to share their challenges of the day, which brought a good team spirit and reminded us all that a united front is the best approach to survival.
With the sun setting over the Melbourne horizon, we bid all a fond farewell, hambaghale, totsiens – see you soon my chinas!
None of this would have been possible without the support of Tertia Weilers who really helped make it all come together.”
